Skin care is a multi-million dollar industry, with an incredible array of manufacturers competing every day for your health and beauty purchases. One of the biggest parts of this particular industry is clear skin, and products designed to combat acne and other facial flaws before makeup is even applied. But, what if those big named facial soap and scrub companies had to compete for your business against Mother Nature? Who would win?
Psoriasis is a skin condition that is typically chronic in nature that is characterized by the overgrowth of skin cells on the dermal surface. This leads to almost silver looking patches on the skin that are incredibly itchy and in some cases, unsightly. These patchy areas are referred to as plaques, and they can vary in size from small to large and normally appear on the hands and feet, the knees and ankles and the scalp. There is not a finite cause for psoriasis, which is thought to run in families, however some believe that an overactive immune system may be to blame. Symptoms are generally limited to the skin’s surface, but arthritis like symptoms such as painful and swollen joints can develop in some cases.
The term eczema can be a little confusing because it actually is more a description than a thing. Eczema refers to a variety of skin disorders that can cause inflammation and itching. One of the most common of these is atopic dermatitis, which essentially refers to a contact rash with something irritating. While in most people, a response to an external irritant would be short lived, those with eczema have exacerbated symptoms for longer periods of time in what is thought of as an over exaggerated response to the irritating offender.
